Three basic types include:
All metal side drawers with a melamine bottom
Cost effective, and have a decent functionality, but result in loss of interior space and full extension is limited
Plywood or melamine box drawers
Allow for the option of using under mount tracks and deeper drawers. Nailed together or glued and doweled. Offers good life, but water leaves melamine vulnerable
Dovetail drawers and solid wood drawers
A more expensive option with under mount tracks. However this is a lifetime drawer that will not need replacement. The best tracks are German made and have a lifetime warranty.
Hinges – Soft close and self-closing hinges
- Soft close hinges are made in Germany and come with a lifetime warranty
- Quality hinges are made in Germany and come with a lifetime warranty
- Self-close hinges engage at the last 4 inches of closing and gently pull the cabinet door shut
- Face frame inset hinges require a solid wood frame to mount to. They require magnetic catches to hold them closed.
- The advantage is that the door can be opened 180 degrees and are very compact.
